15 Jan 2016

The Victoria and Albert Museum have today announced details of a new exhibition celebrating Theatre which will open in February 2016. The exhibition entitled “Curtain Up: Celebrating 40 Years of Theatre in London and New York” will be a celebration of theatre talent from both the West End and Broadway. The free exhibition will display the collaboration and craft that goes into creating musicals, plays and other productions through an immersive experience.

We are excited to reveal that the Matilda The Musical set model, designed by Rob Howell will be on display at the exhibition alongside items from many other familiar shows including War Horse, The Lion King and Chicago.

The exhibition is curated by the V&A and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center and is in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT). Curtain Up is just one piece of activity organised by SOLT in celebration of the 40th birthday of the Olivier Awards.

The exhibition is designed by acclaimed designer and theatre maker Tom Piper, renowned for his Blood Swept Lands of Seas of Red installation of poppies at the Tower of London. You will be able to see everything from costumes and set designs to photographs, scripts and musical scores as well as archive videos.

The exhibition will run from February 9 – August 31 2016: find out more on the V&A website.
