Following the sold-out success of previous relaxed performances of Matilda The Musical, the Royal Shakespeare Company will present the fifth relaxed performance at the Cambridge Theatre on Sunday 10 June at 3pm.
The forthcoming performance will be the 11th relaxed performance that the Royal Shakespeare Company has staged to date across its projects, and once again The National Autistic Society and Mousetrap Theatre Projects will work closely with the RSC to offer full access to the theatre for people with autism and learning disabilities.
The performance provides a relaxed environment for everyone, with elements of the production adapted to reduce anxiety or stress, and with lighting and sound levels adjusted to soften their impact. Audience etiquette throughout the whole theatre is also relaxed with all audience members given the freedom to make noise and/or move about the auditorium according to their needs without restriction. Designated ‘chill-out’ areas are provided outside the auditorium with soft seating and activities available for people to use if they want to take a break. All theatre staff, crew and company members also receive specialist training in advance to anticipate a wider range of different audience needs.
This Matilda The Musical website has a ‘view from your seat’ function. Once you have purchased tickets for this performance, you can see the view from your seat here.
The RSC will provide all bookers with a visual story to help them familiarise themselves with the plot, characters and the setting before they arrive at the theatre.
The visual story can be downloaded here.

Blue disabled badge holders receive one hour free parking in paid for parking bays after an initial payment is made. (For example, if the vehicle arrives at 5pm, the motorist can make a payment for 30 minutes parking and receive 1 hour free parking. This would bring the stay to 6:30pm when controlled hours end.)
Vehicles are permitted to set-down and pick-up for as long as necessary on yellow lines and in resident bays if a blue disabled badge is displayed, but must be moved as soon as the activity is complete.
