Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales, in 1916. After suffering a ‘monumental bash on the head’ as a fighter pilot during the Second World War, he became the author of beloved classics such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda.
