Change My Story is a new RSC education programme devised in collaboration with our regional theatre partners across the country to support the UK Tour of Matilda The Musical. Theatre partners include Leicester Curve, Dublin Board Gais Energy Theatre, Sunderland Empire , Milton Keynes Theatre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Manchester Palace, Cardiff Millennium Centre. Each theatre will create a bespoke programme in collaboration with RSC consisting of some or all of the following:
Become a Change My Story Champion School:
Change My Story has been devised on a region-by-region basis and includes a national search for up to 50 Change My Story Champion Schools who will work with the RSC and their regional theatre to stage a special 45-minute edit of Matilda The Musical as their school play. Any state-maintained school in the touring regions will be able to apply for one of the 50 places which involves committing to a two-year programme of creative work, including professional development and training opportunities for teachers and working with five other local schools to share skills and knowledge from the programme.
Take part in our specially devised INSET programme:
Primary teachers will be able to book onto a new professional development programme using approaches direct from our rehearsal rooms. These specialist courses will explore how you can bring Matilda The Musical into your classroom and use it as a springboard for creative writing. Our approaches have a proven impact on reluctant and lower ability writers, developing their imagination and use of descriptive language, inspiring them to write with confidence and enjoyment.
Book one of our specially devised workshops:
Mrs Phelps’ Library – Workshop Programme
Schools can book a two hour or full day workshop in their school. Working with the character of Mrs Phelps, the musical’s librarian, students will use different storytelling techniques to develop new outcomes for one of the characters. Workshops are developed in response to the needs of your students and can incorporate musical as well as written or performance outcomes
In these pre-show events we will look at the creative choices made in staging and performing the production.
Coming Soon. New Education Resources will be relaunched in early October, so watch this space.
