WRITE HERE WRITE NOW SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

16 May 2013

Eight schools have been shortlisted from the Write Here Write Now with Matilda National Writing Challenge.

On Tuesday 11 June, each of the shortlisted schools will watch cast members from Matilda The Musical perform the selected scenes and songs in a one off performance at the Cambridge Theatre.

To celebrate the launch of Write Here Write Now with Matilda, the groundbreaking free online resource for schools, the RSC set a National Writing Challenge inviting students aged between eight and thirteen to create an original script or song to be performed live in a special performance by the West End cast at London’s Cambridge Theatre in June 2013.

Receiving over 200 entries from schools across the UK, the RSC went through a full script selection process and then the show’s creators Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin helped agree the final shortlist.

The eight shortlisted schools whose work will be performed on stage are Appleton Academy, Bradford; Bittern Park School, Southampton; Pates Grammar School, Cheltenham; Richmond Park Academy, East Sheen, London; Scorton C of E Primary School, Preston, Lancashire; St Mary’s C of E (aided) Primary School, Horsham, West Sussex; St Paul with St Luke C of E Primary School, Tower Hamlets, London and Treorchy Comprehensive School, Treorchy, Mid Glamorgan.

Ten runners up will each receive a Family Golden Ticket and a goody bag from The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.
